Ancient venue of plays, fairs, popular shows and capital executions the square is for sure one of the most known in Italy. An inscription written by Bernini at the entrance called “Porta del Popolo” wishes a happy arrival in the square that has an obelisk in the middle, two twin churches Santa Maria di Montesanto e Santa Maria dei Miracoli and two fountains carved by Valadier.

The most elegant square in Rome, at the Pincio’s feet, Piazza di Spagna is renowed for its monumental staircase, with on top Trinità dei Monti church, and for the “Barcaccia” fountain, a fountain in the shape of a ship carved in stone by Bernini. Sophisticated and eighteenth-century meeting point the square was frequented by illustrious poets like John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley.
Fontana di Trevi

This celebrated fountain, one of the symbols of Rome, was built by Nicola Savi and Giuseppe Pannini. To toss a coin in it is a consolidated habit of tourists from all countries to insure the possibility to come back to Rome. The fountain has become even more well known thanks to the bath made by Anita Ekberg dressed in a black evening dress in the “La Dolce Vita” movie.
Pantheon

The Pantheon is one of the best preserved monuments in Ancient Rome. It is famous thanks to its dome that on top has the “oculus”, a round opening with a 9 mt diameter that allows the sunlight to enter to alight the entire building. Inside you find the remains of King Vittorio Emanuele II, and of the famous painter and artist Raffaello Sanzio. His wonderful dome inspired Brunelleschi for his dome in Florence.
Piazza Navona

The most amusing roman square is among the most famous in the world. Built on the ashes of the Domiziano Stadium it is an unmissable meeting point for both romans and turists. The square, surrounded by many coffee shops, is frequented by street artists, painters and portraitists and contains the Moro Fountain, the Nettuno Fountain and the well known Rivers Fountain, one of the most interesting and imaginative works of Bernini.
